Learning to Dive is easy as 1,2,3

Too many people think that learning to dive takes way too much time and requires endless nights of classroom lectures and pool training sessions. Nothing could be further from the truth. In today’s society value is placed on effective use of time and here at Adventure Scuba we offer the PADI Open Water Diver Scuba training to meet that demand. With a home study program or the new Online Academics program from PADI, you can complete the training for PADI’S Open Water Diver program is either 3 weeknights or 1 weekend day. It’s as easy as 1,2,3.

1. Check out our calendar and select your Scuba lessons dates, either 3 weeknights, (one Academic Review Session & Two Pool Training Sessions) or One Saturday (from 10:00am to 8pm). Make sure you are available because once lessons are booked pool time is reserved and fees will apply to any changes. Then call us at 212-876-3483 to hold your selected date (s). Once you are registered you need to stop by our location at 1737 York Avenue and purchase the PADI course material you will need to prepare before your lesson. If you choose to complete the Academic requirements online you can start 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When you do come to the shop you can browse the selection of personal gear available from Adventure Scuba for your upcoming open water dive class.

2. Complete the required reading and view the multimedia presentations required of all students. Complete the knowledge reviews at the ends of all five chapters in the PADI Open Water Diver Manual and you are ready to come in to take your first class the Academic Review Session. 3. Come in on your chosen date(s). When you come in our instructor will review with you the work you completed at home and administer the required PADI quizzes and final exam required of all students. For those completing the Academics Online a short review exam must be taken. Once this is complete you can attend your Pool Training Sessions where you will participate in the required confined water dives for certification. This is where you will learn the skills required to be a safe, confident diver. All training is under the direct supervision of your PADI instructor and individualized attention insures your success.

It is that simple. All of the required pool and classroom training for recreational PADI Scuba certification can be completed in as little as one week, if you are able to prepare the knowledge reviews and attend the required classes with Adventure Scuba. Emergency First Response January 27th

Emergency First Response, or EFR, is a course available to anyone interested in helping in an emergency. You will learn the proper techniques for 1-person CPR as well as basic first aid skills. We cover both Adult CPR & First Aid as well as AED usage.

This one night program is nationally recognized, and is a prerequisite for the Rescue Diver course. Price includes course material and DVD rental.

Discover Scuba February 18th

Discover Scuba is the chance to “try before you buy” Scuba lessons. Our next Discover Scuba is scheduled for Thursday night February 18th. Class meets at our shop location at 6:00pm and ends no later than 8:00 pm. Students need only to bring a bathing suit, towel and a lock to see what Scuba diving is all about. Class is open to anyone over the age of 10 and in good overall health.

New Home Study option for iPad users.

Now available for purchase from Adventure Scuba is the newest academic delivery option from PADI the Touch for the Apple ipad.

The Touch is a tablet-based version of the popular PADI Open Water Diver course, integrating the PADI Open Water Diver manual curriculum, learning objectives, video clips, quizzes and Knowledge Reviews into a rich, interactive learning environment. Since the Touch is a tablet-based application, no internet connectivity is required to view course content. So, student divers can conveniently access the knowledge development portion of the course at any time from any location.

I just returned from the Club Med on Turks and Caicos, and I have to say it was amazing. Very high standards on the diving boat (Diving doctor on every trip, a safety bar and 4 regulators at 15ft below the surface, food with hot beverages on deck,…). My instructor has done more than 9000 dives over the last 25 years, and I only had one more “co-student”. Perfect conditions.
I felt very well prepared for my open water dives because of your course. So, I was able to enjoy everything from the first second on in the water, which was important since there was so much to see: a lot of barracudas, sharks, puffer fish, lion fish, a sea turtle,… On my fourth dive, I dove without any weights, and continued to do so after two more dives. Since everything went so well, I also did my advanced open water diver. I will definitely continue diving and feel like a new door has opened!!

Just wanted to drop a line to let you know that Alex and I completed our certification in Nassau and just had a blast. The completion dives were much more fun than I thought they would be, as I thought there would be a higher proportion of testing per dive. We loved it, and can’t wait to get back underwater together. I thought the whole process – training stateside and then certifying on vacation – was definitely the way to go, and have been talking this up to everyone I know. Don’t be surprised if you start seeing father/son pairs who know Alex and me, because we are recommending Adventure Scuba, and you, by name.

Thanks so much for all your help and encouragement. You really made us both feel confident in our abilities, which made the training dives much more fun and less stressful (I actually even ran out of air on the last dive, and it didnt matter because we were done anyway and I knew just what to do!)
